Day 5: Collioure and Castelnou

Friday 10/7/2020

Avoiding the traffic of Perpignan, we drive a big loop around it. There is plenty of fruit and vegetables. In fact they have it all: wine, olives, peaches, abricots, veggies everywhere. It's a huge garden. Very nice to drive through that rich landscape.

Visit of the last existing dune in Rousillon region. We expected a white sand paradise - and got a dirty beach, waste everywhere.

Riding down the coast towards the Spanish border, our next stop is in Collioure, famous for Henri Matisse who spent some time in Collioure with his painting colleagues.

There are colourful small fisherman's houses and we spent some time for a nice little walk through the small streets. Reminds me of Positano in Italy: a cute village on the sea unfortunately completely overcrowded by tourists.

Back on the road and back into the nature. The hilly landscape towards the Pyrenees is simply fantastic.

Short stop in Castelnou with cool drinks.

Driving through old cork forests for kilometres

Final station today is Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet. Short rain in the late afternoon, we have to cook in the tent.

Tomorrow morning we will tackle "Via Ferrata Panoramique", a 3 hour walking / climbing track into the mountains.
