Day 11: Going west to Espelette

The uninvited overnight visitor fell in love with my helmet ... we let her go into the bushes before starting the day.

On the program is a riding day - we want to close the loop between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Coast in the coming day(s). Western part of Pyrenees are serious mountains with uncountable major and minor passes. Many of them are important links in the Tour de France. Moving obstacles everywhere: cyclists, cows, sheep, horses, ... but very few tourists only. Which is perfect.

Foggy conditions on the summits.

Today, you can ride with us the the Col d'Aubisque (1.709m altitude) in the following 5 min video:

Arrival in Espelette, well-known for its "piment d'Espelette". Cute little village, all houses are strictly white and red. Loads of tourists here. We do a little walk around, shop some "piment", 6 eggs for our breakfast tomorrow morning and a "gateau aux figues" which will be my dessert this evening.

We will stay the night on the Espelette campsite, only 25 km away from the Atlantic Coast. Contrarily to the village nobody there, we are the only travellers together with another 2 or 3 lost souls ...

Tomorrow we will hit the Atlantic after 2.700 km so far, stay a few days by the sea ... and think about a nice route towards Belgium through the heart of France.
